Action Group Aims
Who we are:
The Parents’ Action Group formed spontaneously in response to the news that the Village Nursery would be forced to close next year due to lack of suitable premises.
Everyone in the group has a vested interest in nursery and after-school club provision (all of us use, have used or intend to use these services). But the glue that really holds the group together is the respect and appreciation we have for the unique service that Janette and her team provide in the village. We know that our children have benefited in so many ways from the positive, caring and creative environment that is the hallmark of the Village Nursery and we are determined to secure its future.
Currently there are around 20 members of the group, but it is growing all the time!
What the action group has set out to achieve.
Our aim is to preserve the unique and valuable service that the Village Nursery team provides for families in the community. We are working with Janette and the wider nursery team to find a viable solution.
Why we think it’s important:
- The Village Nursery provides employment for local people and a vital service for families in the local area – particularly those families where both parents work:
- Village Nursery currently cares for 106 children in the village (53 in nursery and 53 in-after school club)
- 80+ of these have 2 parents who work
- 75 local families have children affected by the potential closure
- 9 staff are employed at the nursery
- There is no other similar service in the local area. Without the robust and flexible service offered by the Village Nursery, there will be an impact on the community and on the economy. In some families one parent will opt to stop working (or will not return to work) and West Linton will become a less attractive choice for young families moving into the area.
- Demographics in West Linton mean that this service is critical – and the need for childcare is set to increase with more residential housing developments in the pipeline.
